A Kindle and Nook Un-Contest

Two weeks from today, The Profession goes on sale. We were thinking about having a contest with prizes to celebrate, but we decided that was much too complicated. So instead we’re giving away stuff without a contest.

An Un-Contest

Click to enter your contact information

The two grand prizes—attorneys, take note: they’re not really “prizes”—are a Nook (WiFi) and a Kindle (WiFi), both to be loaded with the Random House Pressfield library: The Profession, Gates of Fire, Tides of War, Last of the Amazons, The Virtues of War, The Afghan Campaign and Killing Rommel.

Then we’ll throw in six signed first editions of The Profession to a lucky half dozen plucked from those who don’t get the Kindle or Nook. This is all as a thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered or simply stuck with the blog throughout the buildup to publication—and to every friend who has blogged or tweeted or Facebooked or just told their brother-in-law about this new book.

Enter your name and contact information before midnight this Friday, EST. We’ll keep this simple. I’ll assemble a list of the names, blindfold myself and pick eight at random, then announce the winners next Wednesday on the blog. I’ll contact the winners for their mailing addresses. The Kindle and Nook winners will get their e-readers by mail and their book downloads by e-mail (the Nook winner will get an eBook gift certificate from Barnes & Noble).

I’ll send the signed first editions myself. I’d give more but I’m the one who has to pack them and schlep them to the post office, so half a dozen will have to be enough. Any more would become Resistance.

    Hey Mr. Pressfield,

You need to get down here to Ft. Campbell KY and visit a bunch of Screaming Eagles who think the world of you. In Afghanistan Your books were passed amongst my squad and helped tremendously with moral and to instill and even greater fighting spirit in all of us.
You have spent enough time with the Leather Necks. Come give the grunts a try lol

What perfect timing for The Profession. I read “Gates of Fire” while researching a novel I wrote (not yet published) about two brothers, one a SEAL and the other a private military contractor working for CIA. “Gates” is required reading in those communities, and I’m sure this next book will resonate too. Keep it up! “Do the Work” arrived at a perfect time for me as I press ahead with a sequel. Thanks.

  22. Steve Lovelace on June 2, 2011 at 7:55 pm

I like the idea of giving stuff away, especially ever since I read Seth Godin’s Linchpin. This was my first exposure to the idea of a “gift economy”. I like the idea of wealth, true wealth, being a measure of what you can give away, not what you can hoard. I recently came to accept such altruism recently, when my laptop was stolen from my hands as I wrote on the patio of my local Starbucks. I couldn’t afford another computer, but I had a friend who evidently had several laptops to spare. He hooked me up with a new laptop that was nicer than my stolen one. It was hard to accept the gift at first. I felt like a welfare case. But eventually I took it. Now I use it everyday, and I’m always seeking to give back to other people, even if I don’t have the financial resources to be as generous as I’d like.

I have listened to “Do the Work” every morning since I got the book about a month ago.

Between DtW and “War of Art” Stephen Pressfield has finally accomplished what no one else on earth could do… making me into a real adult!

Thank you so much for everything your writing contributes to my life and work on a daily basis. And that’s whether I win the freebies or not!

  50. Amanda on June 3, 2011 at 10:25 am

  56. Bill Seal on June 3, 2011 at 11:58 am

Pressfield, you SOB. I’m trying to get some WORK done!
How can I overcome the resistance when the sonofabitch who taught me is sending me f%#$@ng emails.

I was in the middle of unsubscribing from all my time wasting email updates. I was blocking my mother’s address. I was sending out notices of my untimely demise to unsuspecting assholes. And what do I find but an email from the Master of Motivation, the Duke of Destiny, the Baghavad Badass of Git’a Done.

I pre-ordered The Profession two months ago. I’ve read all your other stuff…twice. I’m out there every day slaying the dragon and dragging it home.

And now you hound me with an irresistible offer. You evil SOB. Sign me up…but you owe me that Nook you bastard.

    With loving regard…

  57. Ulf R. "Ron" Heller on June 3, 2011 at 12:06 pm

I have read all of your books (except the first) at least once and am a big fan. As much as I would appreciate a loaded E-book reader, I think I would prefer an autographed first edition of The Profession should I be so lucky.

    Regards, Ron Heller – OKC

  58. Jeremy on June 3, 2011 at 12:12 pm

Great contest…would love to get all your books in one place. Saves on the room required to pack for a deployment.

Happy un-contest, Steven! What a terrific prize!

  61. Joe Badalamente on June 3, 2011 at 2:25 pm

    Hi everyone,

A couple of months back through a series of fortunate events, I was able to read an advanced copy of The Profession; in my not so humble opinion it’s right up there with Gates. I’ve never served in the military, but I was NYPD for 20 years and Mr. Pressfield captures the dark humor of men and women who live in harm’s way like no one else. Enjoy!

  62. Amy Jones on June 3, 2011 at 2:26 pm

I would love to win your un-contest. I have read “War of Art” and am now reading “Do the Work”.
    Love both books

Pick me! Pick me! lol. Just kidding. Thank you for doing this, and I can’t wait to read this new book because it seems a bit different from your other ones. Please let me know if you do any book signings in Seattle, I would love to get a signing and talk to you, I think you have one of the most interesting brains of any writer around. You are the Norman Rockwell of ancient Greece. (If Norman carried a battle ax along with a paintbrush.) Take care- Kristin 🙂
